The Poortgebouw ENKA site, between Ede and Bennekom, now overlooks your home. Formerly the gateway to the ENKA textile factory, it is now a mix of history and modern living.
Ede-Wageningen railway station
Ede-Wageningen railway station can be easily reached from the ENKA premises. It takes a mere 5 minutes to walk there. Alternatively, you can cycle to the station in 2 minutes. From Ede-Wageningen railway station, it’s an easy 15-minute trip to Arnhem. Or you can travel in the other direction, to Utrecht. This takes 20 minutes. Schiphol Airport can be easily reached as well. It takes 1 hour to get there. It takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to travel to Düsseldorf Airport by public transport.
Wageningen University & Research
Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is an internationally acclaimed university and research institute located in nearby Wageningen. The university is internationally renowned for its expertise in the field of agriculture, nutrition, natural resources, the environment, health and sustainability. It takes about 20 minutes to cycle to WUR from the ENKA premises.
Historical attractions
The ENKA premises aren’t the only place around with a rich history. Kasteel Hoekelum (Hoekelum Castle) and the Ede History Museum boast a great deal of history as well. Kasteel Hoekelum is situated in nature, at the heart of the Hoge Veluwe National Park, between Ede and Bennekom. Ede History Museum is located in Ede’s town centre. Be sure to visit these places to learn more about the region’s history!
Walking in Ede
The ENKA premises are on the edge of the heathland between Ede and Arnhem. If you enjoy a good walk, you’ll love finding your way on the so-called ‘wooden shoe trails’ in Ede, Bennekom, Ederveen, Harskamp, Lunteren, Otterlo, Renswoude, Wekerom and Hoenderloo. Allow yourself to be surprised by historical buildings, nature and many gorgeous vistas. Along the way, you will find several watchtowers, from where you will be able to see Ede and its surroundings from up high. This will be a highlight of your walk!
Kröller-Müller Museum
Be sure to check out the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, a museum with an impressive collection of modern art, including quite a few paintings by Vincent van Gogh. The Kröller-Müller Museum is located in Hoge Veluwe National Park and can be easily reached by public transport or car.
Airborne soldiers landing in Ede
Every year, commemorative activities and events are organised in Ginkelse Heide in Ede to honour the courage and sacrifice of the thousands of airborne soldiers who took part in Operation Market Garden during World War II. Hundreds of parachutists will land on the heathland in September to keep our memory of this historical event alive.
Visit the Pathé Cinema
Pathé is a cinema chain with branches in several European countries, including the Netherlands. The nearest cinema is located in Ede, on Laan der Verenigde Naties. Feel like watching a film on the big screen? It takes 10 minutes to cycle from the ENKA premises to the Pathé cinema.
Burgers’ Zoo
Burgers’ Zoo is a well-known zoo in Arnhem. It has been divided into various thematic zones: the bush, the desert, the ocean, mangroves and safari. It takes about 30 minutes to drive there from the ENKA premises.
Mountainbiking
Discover the scenery in and around Ede by getting on your mountain bike. The surroundings are perfect for it: the municipality owns about 2,500 hectares’ worth of forest and nature that you can explore on your bike
Paleis Het Loo
Paleis Het Loo (Loo Palace) is a former royal palace located in Apeldoorn, which served as a summer residence for the Dutch royal family until 1971. This important historical and cultural attraction is less than half an hour’s drive from ENKA.
